Authentic Barbery for the Sophisticated Man
Man Spaces Week Featuring: Truefitt & Hill
Nestled in the heart of the Financial District of Downtown Chicago lies a small place that seems to transport you back in time. Rich, well-worn mahogany leather chairs are exquisitely donned with antique nail head trim. Warm wood casings and heavy hunter green drapery hug corners of the walls and columns.
No blaring televisions can be found here. Instead, classical music plays in the background at a level just soft enough to make you forget it’s there; yet still sufficient to give you a foregleam of the experience that awaits you.
The quintessential helical striped barber’s pole is stationed in the front window. A clear indicator of the special craft that is practiced here. This is Truefitt & Hill, a premier traditional gentlemen's barber and perfumer.

Established first in London in 1805, Truefitt & Hill is the world’s oldest barbershop. The company positioned itself from the start, as a place to cater to the incredibly sophisticated British gentry. Not only are they barbers, but they are Royal Warrant holders to H.R.H The Duke of Edinburg.
Simply put, that means that this company has been recognized as a supplier of goods or services to either the Households of Her Majesty The Queen (of England), His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburg, or His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This also means that as a modern-day client of Truefitt & Hill, you will have the distinction of being treated like “royalty”— even if you aren’t. Kewl.
What Truefitt & Hill is Not
It is not a foo foo-y men’s salon or a sports bar. Nor is it a place where female stylists cater to the grooming needs of male patrons. In fact, with very few exceptions, all of the barbers at Truefitt & Hill are men. Before you go pulling out your picket signs and pink hats ladies, let me tell you something. If there is one experience every man should be rewarded with at least once in his lifetime— it is this one.
The hands of a Truefitt & Hill master barber. I'm a sucker for clean nails. Remember to check out the details on the barber chairs too!
Services Offered
What you will find at Truefitt & Hill are master barbers who perform the signature, traditional straight razor wet shaves, with blades perfectly tilted at a 30-degree angle. Guys, did you know that improving your shaving routine can actually keep you looking younger? Read about that here on the Truefitt & Hill blog.
Are you looking to participate in the World Beard and Moustache Championship®? (yes it really does exist) Truefitt can craft the perfect look for you. Would you like a traditional shoe or boot shine? They’ve got you covered. You’ll also be happy to know that Truefitt is a purveyor of the finest quality traditional English fragrances, shaving and grooming needs. The only thing better than a sharp dressed man, is one that smells good. Ha!
Perhaps their website states it best: “Truefitt & Hill…is a place where good grooming is still an essential mark of a gentleman.” I couldn’t agree more.
