Yes- Organization Decor Really IS a Thing
There are so many ways to decorate a home. The most obvious way is through thoughtfully placed objects. Scent decor also plays a major role in making a space feel more welcoming. Additionally, Architectural features, while permanent, sometimes serve as a decorative element that adds character. But there is another type of decor that balances both the form and function of a room. I like to call it organization decor.

Is Organization Decor Really Necessary?
Must organization be "pretty" or decorative in order to be effective? The answer to that depends on who you ask. Some say that attractive organization is silly. But I argue that beautiful organization is a powerful incentive for maintaining order, thereby making it more effective. What do YOU say?

How to Organize Beautifully for Function
It’s so easy to fall into the trap of filling rooms with pretty things that have nothing to do with real life. Then when real life starts happening— and it will, there’s no place to put all the stuff that comes with it— the mail, kids toys, homework, keys, etc. Pretty yet clueless storage solutions will wear you out! On the other hand, functional storage that also happens to be pretty is the key to handsome looking interiors.
When you live in a small home many things must be “stored” in plain sight. Nothing screams storage solution more than plastic tubs and bins, which is why I steer clear of them. The beauty behind organization decor is its discretion. Being more thoughtful about the storage pieces I choose allows me to achieve my desired aesthetic decor wise and maintain order at the same time. To organize beautifully, solutions must be:
Easy to commit to
Aesthetically pleasing yet durable
Practical for regular use
Remember, only well thought out, strong organization systems will be able to stand up to the day to day challenges of daily life. Below are a few handsome storage solutions I use to corral everyday items:
Open Shelves
Floor Baskets
Trays
Wall baskets
Glass and Ceramic Jars
Decorative Boxes
Vases

Whole House Organization Challenge
Each year starting with the month of January, I launch my Whole House Organization challenge (WHO). Over a period of 14 weeks, I comb through every inch of my home to weed out traces of disorder. Afterwards I update my readers by means of a blog post on my progress. I’ve done it that way 3 years in a row. This year, I've decided to take a different approach.
As in the past, I'll take you on a short journey through my home to show you just how I use organizational decor. But this will primarily be done on Instagram. To get the most out of this series I encourage you to follow along.
Videos will be uploaded to Instagram and a summary with links to more detailed blog posts will of course appear here. If I have an existing post on the area being covered, I will simply link it to my Instagram profile. New posts will only be published as necessary. The videos will add a fresh and exciting new dimension to this challenge!
If you follow along, you’ll see that the methods I use are simple but they truly work. Implementing them helps me return my home to a clean state every time. My hope is that by sharing my journey it will help you love where you dwell, no matter how small or how perfectly imperfect it is.
