The Friday Fix: Simple Solutions to Reign in the Chaos

Whole House Organization Challenge: Week 1

This week my 2nd annual WHO Challenge kicked off.  It's a goal to push you and I to organize our homes in 14 weeks or less.

Blogging about this challenge always gives me the jitters because I never really know exactly how each space is going to turn out.   Of course, most sane people would have the spaces completed months in advance so that they can  write comfortably about the experience afterwards.  Me?   Oh noooo!  Each year I have to be "special", and blog about it in real time.  #whydoIdothistomyself

But I have to say the response from you dear readers on social media has been phenomenal!  Thank you for that.  Now, let's get to business.

By now those of you following along should be working on your laundry rooms.  As a reminder, here is my project.  It's the laundry room of personal chef and wellness coach Miljan.

And below is the inspiration image that will guide us through the space.

The page above is listed as the last step before gathering your storage solutions and loading in the space.  But the truth is that you will revisit Step 5 many times throughout the process.  It sometimes takes a few tries to get the look and function you desire.

The most accurate picture of what you want can be gained when you have completely emptied out the room.

As a reminder, this couple just moved into this city condo, and that they wanted a budget friendly organized room.  Using the WHO Worksheet, we followed steps 2 , 3 and 4  to attack the space.

Right away, we encountered two obstacles.  I should also mention the couple is renting this condo.  This means that some of our plans for additional shelving were subject to the approval of the landlord.  To simplify matters, we decided to keep the setup as-is.  The second problem was that the owners insisted that the multiple gallons of paint you see in the photo above remain in place  (arrggh).

With these restrictions in mind, we now had to brainstorm for other options.  Below are some of the solution we came up with.

The good news is that I was able to use my Amazon Prime to get the items right away (2-days to be exact).  The last thing you want is to drag out an organization process.   We're installing everything this weekend.  I'll be back on Wednesday with the reveal and will introduce the next space.

Please tell me:

  • If you're using the WHO Worksheet, how is it working for you?
  • Is there anything I didn't include that you would like to see added to it?
