The Friday Fix: Purple Passion Drink

Happy Friday y'all!  I hope you've enjoyed this  final week of 2016, and that you're looking ahead to 2017 with LOTS of optimism.

It's been a while since we've done a Friday Fix.   As reminder, the Friday Fix is a small reward that you give yourself at the end of the week.  It can be enjoyed alone or with others.

I find pleasure in simple Friday Fixes like watching a marathon of House Hunters on Roku, or enjoying a good book while soaking in a hot tub.  But these types of "fixes" can be a bit of a bore to write about.  Which is why up until now, I've only considered desserts and cocktails.  In the future posts I'll consider other creative ways to reward yourself at the end of the week.  If you have any you'd like to add, please let me know in the comments below.

Today,  I want to share a cocktail that comes by way of my family's unofficial barista, whom I affectionately call "Sil" (sister-in-law).  Let the mixologist be warned: This drink is strong.  When I entered the original formula into an online alcohol calculator, just one of these was equivalent to about 2.8 drinks.  Whoa!

It's no wonder to me now, why after just a few sips, I seriously felt like my life had just been fast-forwarded, and dropped right into the middle menopause!  For the life of me,  I could not figure out  why the heat was up so dang-on high!  Then, I realized it was just me - or rather - the drink.  To spare you similar confusion, I've modified the recipe a bit so that it registers at about 1.9 - 2.  Feel free to make adjustments according to your taste.

Purple Passion Drink Recipe

-16oz sweet red wine (like Barefoot or Sutter Home)
-4oz vodka
-3oz triple sec
-6oz frozen grape juice concentrate
-6oz frozen lemonade concentrate
-4oz orange flavored liqueur (like Grand Marnier)
-4oz coconut rum

Blend all ingredients together with ice.  Serves 4
Optional: serve with orange, pineapple or strawberry slices.
