The Friday Fix: An Extra Pantry With An Awesome Surprise
Whole House Organization Challenge: Week 6
It's week 6 of the Whole House Organization Challenge. Welcome back!
This week we've been organizing our kitchens. If you're just joining in, the goal of this challenge is to help you get your entire house organized in 14 weeks or less - for good.
But as the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a Dull Boy right? Riiight! We've been working so hard for 6 straight weeks. I'm sure you would agree that it's time for a break.
Imagine that you had just a tiny bit more space to work with in your kitchen. Wouldn't you love to do something creative and fun with the extra real estate? How does a fully stocked tea & coffee bar in your kitchen sound?
Sounds awesome doesn't it? Well make yourself comfortable 'cause that is exactly what I'll be showing you today.

This homeowner's small galley-style kitchen has 2 - yes two pantries. Oh the things I could do with an extra 20-24 inches of space! Excited about this opportunity to do something special here, and knowing that the client was an avid tea drinker, I recommended she use the extra space for a tea and coffee bar.
In a previous post I showed a photo of the raw space, along with a rendering of what I wanted it to look like once finished.
Plan Out Your Organization Strategy
Although this is technically extra space it's still small. So finding the right systems to create the dream tea and coffee bar would still be challenging. The measurements of every single item used had to be exact. If you will be attempting something like this in your home, be sure to download the WHO Worksheet (available when you subscribe) to drastically reduce the amount of time spent looking for the perfect items for your pantry.
The first step in this project was to call in a capable handyman to:
- Build and install the shelves
- Remove the laundry chute protruding from the floor
- Finish out the space with a coat of white paint
Not bad! Chewy (the handyman) completed in less than 2 hours, what would have taken me an entire day. Sometimes it pays to call in the professionals.
After lots, and lots of sourcing products through many different websites, and stores, we were able to nail down a place for everything. And here are the results...
What an ambitious project! This pantry took about as much planning and effort as an entire room! But the results are well worth it. To help you along in your own project, I've included links to most of the items used in this makeover below.
