Steal A Chic and Easy Look with Cost Plus World Market

There's just something euphoric about getting a first apartment or home.  FINALLY you have a space to do anything you wish.   Well... almost anything.

The problem is that for most of us, our first apartment, condo or home might be a bit snug, tight... s-m-a-l-l.  But if you follow this blog regularly you already know that for true small space dwellers - like myself - size doesn't mean a thing.

Today we'll explore two design boards that well illustrate how to choose the right furnishings for your first apartment or home.

Please Note:  I have NOT been compensated in any way from Cost Plus World Market in exchange for this article.  I personally shop this store quite often and happen to think they sell some really cool stuff.    Affiliate links may be included in this post.  This means that should you purchase a linked product, I may receive a small commission, but at no additional cost to you.  To read my full disclosure click here.

As the title indicates, the items featured in these design boards are from Cost Plus World Market.  If I had to describe this store to someone unfamiliar with it I would say that it's like an IKEA, Etsy and global food market all rolled into one.  The product price, quality and authenticity are absolutely phenomenal.

In a later post I'll explore all the handcrafted accessories and global market foods at Cost Plus World Market.  But for today let's take a look at the furnishings, many of which are perfect for small spaces.

Small Apartment/Studio Mood Boards Using World Market Furnishings

1. Capiz Shell Pendant  //  2. Studio Day Sofa   // 3. Brown Dining  Chair  // 4Cala Hammered Coffee Table (gold or silver)  // 5. Printed Faux Cowhide Rug (gold or ivory) // 6 &7.  Mix & Match Desk and Top  // 8. Martina Aged Mirror Lamp  // 9. Fiddle Leaf Fig (Target)  // 10. Printed Curtain (available prints vary)

Choose Furnishings with Multiple Duties

  • The day sofa functions as seating and adjusts to make a comfy double bed as well.
  • The drum coffee table has a removable lid which can be used as a tray for eating.  It's also a great place to store blankets and pillows when the bed is not in use.
  • A rattan dining chair (sold as a set of 2) can be used as a side chair and a desk chair
  • The mix & match desk and top works great as an office desk and media console.  Or, select a base with drawers and use it as a dresser, desk and media console combo.

The printed curtain is actually a cotton shower curtain which can be wrapped around a canvas and used as an oversized wall art.  Cool huh?

1.  Wood and Brass Pendant Light  // 2.  Printed Curtain (available prints vary) // 3.  Blue Nostalgia Area Rug  // 4. Desk  // 5. Fur Accent Chair  // 6.  Charcoal Gray L-shaped Sofa  // 7.  Copper Drum Table

The elements in this group are not as versatile as those in the previous layout, but they are nonetheless easy pieces that can grow with you.  I love the gender neutral undertones in this layout.  It has just right "his and hers" combination.  And if you simply replaced selections #2 and #5 with items having a more masculine feel, this set up would be perfect for a young bachelor.

Of course, like in the first layout, the chair and desk can serve multiple duties in the same room.  But any of these items can be used in a different part of a home should a purchaser decide to upgrade.

Now it's time to hear from you .

  • What do you think of these picks for easy, small space living?
  • Which one is your favorite?
